Patricia Malaga – Space Manager

Patricia is Peruvian by birth, but has spent most of her adult life in New York and London. In 2016 she and her husband settled in Olvera, leaving behind London’s fast-pace and astronomic cost of living. Patricia is a seasoned professional with more than 20 years’ experience in a variety of sectors: television, airlines, investment banking, internet, trade and medical publishing, local government and professional development. She has founded and now manages VERDIGRIS CO-WORKING, a rural coworking in AndalucÍa, Spain.

In her last years at a London borough, Patricia worked in a hot-desking environment – flexible hours and collaborative working were encouraged – and from home a couple of days a week. This way of working really suited her as she has never been a morning person, but didn’t mind working late. She worked better later in the day, was super productive and her work was of high quality. For a few years she had felt that the ‘9 to 5’ way of working was inefficient and outdated – many people would get away with not doing much as long as they were seen between those hours. Patricia wanted to be appreciated and compensated for the amount and quality of work she produced, and not for the hours she kept a chair warm, or whether she started a half hour later or not.

A couple of years ago, she left the borough during a reorganisation and became a consultant, working from home, which gave her the freedom to manage her time and workload and get paid for what she produced. Upon moving to Olvera, both she and her husband worked from home and, seeing potential of the town and the area in tourism and adventure sports, they decided to open this rural coworking in Andalucia. Here, they can both work outside the home and network with other professionals.

Patricia enjoys managing the space and providing a space for others to work flexibly, productively and creatively, balancing work and life as it suits them.

Over the last 6 years, Patricia specialised in leadership and professional development, and change strategy and implementation. However, she started as a communicator and along her professional journey she developed capabilities in marketing, project management, corporate organisation, programme design and events planning. Patricia also has extensive experience as office manager and executive assistant, so she also works as a virtual assistant for clients in England, and can do it for clients anywhere in the world.
